A New Look for Our Web Site

Welcome to our all new web site. We have gotten away from a Content Management System (CMS) for this web site and are now doing the site in pure static HTML. We have retained all the old content, but in a new format. We hope you like the changes.

NILUG Meeting for December, 2014

For December, our General session meeting will be held on the second Saturday, 13 December 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the River of Life Friends Church in Post Falls. The meeting is free and everyone with an interest in the Linux operating system is invited to attend.

There will be no Technical session, as the normal date for that would fall in-between Christmas and New Years.

So, if you suffer from viruses, infections, spyware, trojans or adware on your computer, or if it is slow or unstable, you can saolve all those problems with Linux. Come to the General session to learn more about the Linux operating system replacement for that Redmond, WA based operating system.

NILUG Meetings for November 2014

For November, our General session meeting will be held on the second Saturday, 8 November 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the River of Life Friends Church in Post Falls. The meeting is free and everyone with an interest in the Linux operating system is invited to attend.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: This time, the General session meeting for November ONLY has been cancelled. The church has another event for Saturday that overrides our meeting.

We will try to hold our Technical session on the fourth Saturday, 22 November 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the F1 for Help computer store in Rathdrum. This meeting is also free and is dedicated to installing Linux and troubleshooting and fixing Linux installations. Everyone is invited to attend.

NILUG Meetings for October 2014

As usual, we will have two meetings in the month of October. The first meeting is our General session. It will be held on the second Saturday, 11 October 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the River of Life Friends Church in Post Falls. The meeting is free and everyone with an interest in an alternative to that other operating system is invited to attend.

The Technical session will be held on the fourth Saturday, 25 October 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the F1 for Help computer store in Rathdrum. This meeting is also free and is dedicated to installing Linux and troubleshooting and fixing Linux installations. Everyone is invited to attend.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Once again, the Technical session meeting for September ONLY has been cancelled. There is currently no room at F1 For Help to support the meeting.

NILUG Meetings for September 2014

We have two meetings concerning Linux and free software each month. One is the NILUG General session, where talks, demonstrations and help are all freely dispensed. The General session for September will be held on 13 September at 1pm and will last until about 4pm. For information on meeting location, go to our Meeting Location page.

The second meeting for September is the Technical session, where we concentrate on new Linux installations, troubleshooting and fixing Linux installations. That meeting will be on 27 September and also lasts from 1pm to about 4pm. For information on meeting location, go to our Meeting Location page.

NILUG Meetings for August 2014

The general and technical sessions of the North Idaho Linux Users Group will be held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in August. The General Session will be held on 9 August at the usual place and usual time.

Everyone, members and non-members, is welcome to attend the general meeting.

The Technical Session for October will be held on 23 August at the usual place and usual time.

The Technical Session is used for helping people install and configure Linux, fixing hardware problems and doing any other tasks that need to be done for someone to use Linux on their computer. If you are interested in any of that, feel free to attend the meeting.

NILUG holds two meetings a month: a general session and a technical session

General Session

The NILUG general session will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID. The meeting will start at 1pm and will run until about 4pm.

There is no planned talk for this meeting. It will primarily deal with problems that anyone has with Linux, and new installations.

If you are interested in replacing Windows XP or any other operating system with one that has no Viruses, Infections, Spyware, Trojans and Adware and has plenty of support, you are invited to attend the meeting and learn about Linux.

If you already use Linux and are interested in learning more about it or having your questions answered, you will also benefit by attending. Anyone is free to attend our meetings.

Technical Session

The NILUG technical session will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the F1 For Help Computer Store in Rathdrum, ID.

The technical session is basically an install-fest and problem solving session. Anyone who would like to install Linux or would like to solve a problem with Linux is invited.

Handy command line program

inxi is a command line progam that can tell you a lot about your computer. My favorite usage is

inxi -F -c3
