NILUG Meetings for January, 2012

General Session

The NILUG general session will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID. The meeting starts at 1pm and runs until about 4pm.

Whether you already use Linux and are interested in learning more about it or you need to have your questions about Linux and other open source software answered, you will benefit by attending.

Linux is the operating system of literally millions of devices in use today. The Android operating system is based on Linux. We should be able to answer any questions you have about the operating system and possible about the devices.

Technical Session

The NILUG technical session will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the F1 For Help Computer Store in Rathdrum, ID. The technical session is devoted to helping users with installations and configuration of Linux on their computers. We will also answer questions about Linux for anyone at this meeting.

NILUG Meeting for December 2011

General Session

The NILUG general session will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID. The meeting starts at 1pm and runs until about 4pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting - we won't solicit money or even mandatory membership from you. We are just interested in helping to answer questions you have about Linux. If you already use Linux and are interested in learning more about it, you will also benefit by attending.

Technical Session

There will be no NILUG technical session for December. The fourth Saturday of the month happens to be Christmas Eve and we're sure most of you have more important things to do than to learn about your Linux installation. We hope you have a Merry Christmas.

NILUG Meetings for November 2011

General Session

The NILUG general session will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID. The meeting starts at 1pm and runs until about 4pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. Our aim is to help answer questions you have about Linux. If you already use Linux and are interested in learning more about it, you can also benefit by attending.

This meeting we will have a Q and A session. If no one has any questions, we will go to one of the web sites, pick some questions and attempt to answer them. We can then look at the answer on the web site to see if we used the same method for the solution that they did.

Technical Session

The NILUG technical session will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the F1 For Help Computer Store in Rathdrum, ID. The technical sessions are oriented towards distro installation and problem solving. We can install Linux, help with problems on current installations or help with just about anything concerning your computer or Linux.

The NILUG general session will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID. The meeting starts at 1pm and runs until about 4pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting - we won't solicit money or even mandatory membership from you. We are just interested in helping to answer questions you have about Linux. If you already use Linux and are interested in learning more about it, you will also benefit by attending.

There is no scheduled talk for the meeting, but impromptu demos are our specialty. We will try to get a schedule together for future talks.

We can install Linux, help with problems on current installations or help with just about anything concerning your computer or Linux.

NILUG Meetings for September 2011

General Session - CANCELLED

The NILUG general session for September 2011 at the River of Friends Church in Post Falls, ID has been cancelled. We will continue with general sessions starting in October.

Technical Session

The NILUG technical session will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the F1 For Help Computer Store in Rathdrum, ID. The technical session is devoted to helping users with installations and configuration of Linux on their computers. We will also answer questions about Linux for anyone at this meeting.

At the last technical session, we helped a new member with his netbook, on which he had installed Puppy Linux. The netbook also had an Ralink Wi-Fi chip in it, which Ralink does not well support for Linux. We helped him get the driver installed and working.

We also worked on our mailing list, which still has problems. We have not been able to resolve those problems yet.

Mailing List Working

The mailing list has been out of order since we changed web hosts. It is now fixed.

Unfortunately, we lost all the subscribers to the mailing list. You will have to resubscribe if you want to be on the list again. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The talk for this month's meeting will be "Linux-Vservers - One hunk of hardware, loads of servers", given by Rod Anderson. Rod will also be presenting this talk at LinuxFest Northwest, which will be held in Bellingham, WA on April 30 and May 1.

Linux in the Ham Shack

For those of you with an interest in amateur radio, you might want to look at Linux in the Ham Shack. The latest episode talks with the lead developer of a Linux program called FLDIGI.
