Meeting Changes for the next three months
The holiday season creates all kinds of problems for groups that meet on a specific day of the month. NILUG is the perfect example. For various reasons, the following will be our meeting schedule for the last three months of 2006:
- October - Meeting will be held on Saturday the 28th.
- November - No meeting will be held
- December - Meeting will be held on December 2nd.
The meeting location is still the same.

NILUG July Meeting
The next meeting of the North Idaho Linux User Group will be held on Saturday, 8 July 2006 at noon at the normal location.
Anyone who has an interest in Linux is invited to attend. There are no dues, signups or other strings. The company is cordial and we don't make fun of those who are stuck on Microsoft Windows.
If you have installed Linux and are having problems, there are several attendees who qualify as gurus and who can help you with configuration problems.
We also have giveaways. We still have some SimplyMepis disks to give away, and some other stuff, too.
Put us on your calendar. We'll be happy to see you there.

NILUG June Meeting
For June only, the NILUG meeting will be held on the first Saturday of the month, instead of the second Saturday. The next meeting of the North Idaho Linux User Group will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the usual time and place.
We would really like to know what Linux distro you are currently using, and how you like it. If you attend the meeting, let us know your thoughts on this. We are looking for one live distro based on KDE and one live distro based on Gnome that can be used to introduce new users to the joys of Linux.

Microsoft has announced that Windows Vista will not be available by the end of the year. This is unsurprising. In 2003, they announced it wouldn't be available until 2006. Why isn't anyone calling this vaporware?
The Vista that Microsoft will be delivering in 2007 bears no resemblance to the Vista (Longhorn) that they began building sometime prior to 2003. It is missing most of the features that Microsoft has promised. You may consider Vista to be a simple upgrade of Windows NT (as Win2k and XP was), not a complete re-design as promised by the Microsoft marketing machine.
This is a tremendous opportunity for Linux advocates to make great inroads into Microsoft's desktop turf. We need to evangelize our operating system - get out there on the weekends and show the public how easy, convenient and trouble-free Linux is. We need to give away Live CD versions of Linux, so people can see for themselves just how easy Linux is to use.
With that in mind, the next meeting of the North Idaho Linux User Group will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the usual time and place. Part of the meeting will be spent discussing how to implement the above suggestions. The rest of the meeting will be the usual - helping each other and new attendees.
